Maintenance and replacement
The fuel filter is an important component in the fuel system of an internal combustion engine. It is mainly used to filter impurities, moisture and contaminants in the fuel to ensure that the fuel entering the engine is clean, thereby protecting the fuel injection system (such as the injector) and the performance of the engine.
Fuel Filters
1. Filter impurities: The fuel may be mixed with impurities such as dust and rust particles during storage and transportation. These contaminants can be filtered effectively by the fuel filter to protect the engine.
2. Separate moisture: Some fuel filters have the function of separating moisture, preventing it from entering the fuel system and causing damage to the engine.
3. Protect the fuel system: Clean fuel can extend the service life of components such as the fuel pump and the injector nozzle, ensuring efficient operation of the engine.
Common faults
Main functions
Types
1. Internal fuel filter
- Installed inside the fuel tank, usually integrated with the fuel pump.
- The replacement cycle is long, but the replacement is more complicated and usually requires professional tools.
2. External fuel filter
- Installed outside the fuel tank, usually located in the chassis or engine compartment.
- Easy to replace but the short cycle.
3. High-pressure fuel filter
- Used for diesel engines or direct injection gasoline engines, can withstand the higher fuel pressure.
- Higher filtration accuracy and protection of high-pressure fuel injection system
The replacement of fuel filter varies according to vehicle type, fuel quality and environment. Generally recommended
- Gasoline vehicle; Replace every 20,000 to 40,000 kilometers.
- Diesel vehicle; Replace every 10,000 to 20,000 kilometers.
Please refer to the user manual or manufacturer's recommendations for specific replacement.
1. Filter blockage
- Faults; engine power decreases, acceleration is weak, and starting is difficult.
- Cause; Long-term non-replacement; excessive accumulation of impurities.
2. Moisture enters the fuel system
- Faults; The engine vibrates and stalls. Fuel system is corroded
- Cause; The function of moisture separation is fail.
3. fuel leakage
- Faults; obvious fuel odor; fuel leakage.
- Cause; The filter seal is damaged or installed improperly.
1. Choose a high-quality filter: low-quality filters with poor performance may damage the fuel system.
2. Regular replacement: Replace the filter in time according to the vehicle usage and fuel quality.
3. Installation specifications: Pay attention to the seal is in place to avoid oil leakage or air entering the fuel system when installing.
4. Special attention for diesel vehicles: Diesel filters are more sensitive to moisture and impurities and require more frequent maintenance.
